The 2300-year-old Bo Tree at Yatagala had been worshipped and venerated by generations of people who lived around the village of Yatagala.

From time immemorial, this place of great scenic beauty and splendid environment always drew the attention of the monarchs who ruled the country. There is a statue of Buddha build the in the cave of the gigantic rock outcrop.

Archeologist believe that the great granite boulders that stand guard around the Bo tree in elephantine stature are in fact a kind of rocky garden, the reason why who ever planted the Bo tree may have chosen this place for that purpose

The Cavern formed by four huge granite boulders was also turned into a Meditation Hall and granite Samadhi Buddha Statue was installed inside.

The historical value of the place prompted the rulers of the previous regime to follow in the foot steps of kings of ancient times and bestow their patronage, hence the government of the day declared Yatagala as a Sacred Area and development of the infra structure facilities was begun with the donations from the public, by the government.
